Bath’s Maddock is on his way
RUGBY UNION: Winger Joe Maddock has confirmed he is to leave Bath at the end of the season – with Italy his likely destination.

The 31-year-old New Zealander, who has scored 233 points in 129 matches for Bath, has been linked with a move to Magners League new boys Treviso.

He said: “I will be leaving Bath at the end of the season. I can’t say for where at the moment. It could be ‘arrivederci’ or it could be ‘See you later, mate’.

Meanwhile, Gloucester have completed the signing of highly-rated back-row Matt Cox from relegated Worcester.

Wiggins on the slide
CYCLING: Bradley Wiggins fell further off the pace in the Giro d’Italia after crashing on the third stage.

Wiggins, who let slip the leader’s jersey on Sunday, lost three minutes when he crashed 15km from the finish of the Amsterdam to Middelburg stage.

Belgian Wouter Weylandt won the stage, while British Tour debutant Adam Blythe finished fifth. Kazakhstan’s Alexander Vinokourov took the pink jersey from Cadel Evans with Scotland’s David Millar third.

McLaren investigate Lewis crash
FORMULA ONE: McLaren are to launch an investigation into Lewis Hamilton’s tyre blow-out which cost him second-place in Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Hamilton crashed into the tyre wall two laps from the end, robbing him of 18 valuable world championship points.

McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh said: “The parts will now be meticulously analysed back at the McLaren Centre. He drove brilliantly.”
