With all eyes on John Terry last night, the centre-half was on best behaviour – and deep into injury time Chelsea’s captain dramatically came to their rescue, deflecting Emmanuel Adebayor’s goal-bound shot wide of the post. The game was bookended by crucial Terry blocks, after Gareth Bale’s second minute effort was also thwarted by the England defender. Facing the heat of an aggressive White Hart Lane crowd, Terry kept his cool, not giving away a single foul all game. Conceding a late goal would’ve crushed Chelsea’s morale – but Terry ensured it didn’t happen.

Can Spurs win the league for the first time in over half a century? Former player Graham Roberts recently talked up Tottenham’s involvement in the title race, yet last night’s draw sees Harry Redknapp’s third-placed side trail Man City by nine points. The gap is not insurmountable, especially with a game in hand, yet a growing injury list won’t help. Rafael Van der Vaart “seems to have a hamstring problem all the time”, Redknapp admitted last night, while also bemoaning the lack of a right-winger to fill in for the injured Aaron Lennon. Jermain Defoe was sidelined. Spurs still have to visit Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea, as well as playing host to Man Utd and Newcastle. It’ll be near-impossible to come top of that bunch.
