THREE OTHER GRAND FRENCH BRASSERIES

GALVIN LA CHAPPELLE
A year after it opened, the Galvin brothers’ Spitalfields restaurant has become an institution for City diners looking for superior French flair. Its sister bar, Galvin Cafe a Vin, lives up to its name with a fabulous wine list, plus formidable food of its own and a cigar terrace. 35 Spital Square, E1 6DY www.galvinrestaurants.com

CAFE LUC
It may in fact be Belgian-themed, but this recent addition to Marylebone’s gastronomic scene feels French in every way. We particularly love the parsley-infused shrimp croquettes, and the deep, unctuous glory of the boeuf bourguignon is to be treasured. 50 Marylebone High Street, W1U 5HN www.cafeluc.com

LE BOUCHON BRETON
Spitalfields is home to another classy French brasserie, a northern French counterpart to Battersea’s Le Bouchon Bordelais. As perfect for a mid-morning croque monsieur with frites as it is for a whole lobster thermidor in the evening, and we like the bar as well. 8 Horner Square, Old Spitalfields Market, E1 6EW. www.lebouchon.co.uk
