Terry glad Chelsea stars aren’t content with life on the bench
CHELSEA captain John Terry admits player unrest is an inevitable consequence of manager Andre Villas-Boas’s rotation policy, but insists he’s encouraged by the attitude of those squad members not content to play a bit-part role.
Record signing Fernando Torres and Blues stalwart Frank Lampard have both been in and out of the side this season, with the latter particularly disheartened at having to accept he’s no longer an automatic starter.
Terry (right), however, is adamant the squad remains united in their determination to gain ground on the Premier League’s top three – a goal they can take a step closer to achieving by beating Norwich at Carrow Road on Saturday.
“Unfortunately when people do not play, you get that people write ‘this player is unhappy with the manager’, which I don’t think is the case,” said Terry. “If there are some players in our squad who are unhappy that they are not playing, I would rather that than players prepared to tick along, collect their wages.”
Chelsea head to Norwich for Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off looking to put some pressure on the sides above them, who all play on Sunday.
Terry added: “It is a big weekend for the top sides. Spurs go to Manchester City, while Manchester United go to Arsenal, so maybe it is a chance for us to close the gap on the teams above us.”
