The value of Premier League clubs' shirt sponsorships has risen by nearly £70m this season, more than any other league in Europe.

Premier League shirt sponsorship revenues have grown by 35 per cent from £193m (€244m) to £260m (€330m) in the past year, according to a new report from sports industry adviser Repucom.

The Premier League accounts for just under 40 per cent of all shirt sponsorship revenues across Europe's top six leagues in England, France, Italy, Germany, Spain and Holland, which grew by 13 per cent to £655m.

Foreign companies contributed to 82 per cent of Premier League shirt sponsorship revenue at £213m and 62 per cent of investment across Europe's top leagues at £404m.

The increase in investment from betting companies, up 180 per cent to £33.2m, is cited as another driver of the rise in overall shirt sponsorship revenues.

"At its current rate of growth, we could see European football shirt sponsorship investment top €1bn within the next few seasons," said Repucom UK and Ireland managing director Jon Stainer.

"The Premier League continues to drive this trend with year on year investment growing faster than any other league on the continent. It is an industry that attracts big money from abroad which underlines the appeal European football has internationally."
