Paulie questions Khan power
BOXING: Paulie Malignaggi has questioned Amir Khan’s reputation as a big puncher as he goes in search of his WBA light-welterweight belt in New York.
Khan, 23, boasts 16 knockouts in his 22-1 record, but New Yorker Malignaggi, used the Bolton fighter’s points victory over Gairy St Clair in 2008 to undermine his punching power. “That’s a former little man as well and Amir couldn’t knock him out,” Malignaggi said. “So I don’t know how strong Amir is.”
Mitchell awaits ‘clumsy’ Katsidis
BOXING: Kevin Mitchell has revealed he aims to take advantage of Michael Katsidis’ “clumsy approach” when the pair go head-to-head for the WBO lightweight title at Upton Park tomorrow.
Local lad Mitchell expects his toughest fight yet against Australian Katsidis, who boasts a 26-2 record including 21 KOs.
“He does clumsy things and, as soon as that happens, I’ll capitalise – trust me, Mitchell said.”
Murray charge continues
TENNIS: British No1 Andy Murray continued his impressive return to form to reach the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open with a comfortable victory over Romanian Victor Hanescu.
Murray came through 6-2, 6-1 in just 70 minutes to set up a last eight clash with Spanish ninth seed David Ferrer.
