Sleet hits London as Met Office warns rush hour commuters to expect snow
Sleet hit London this afternoon as temperatures plunged to as low as 3C amid warnings of snow later this week.

Canada experienced chilly sleet and rain, while the Met Office told Londoners to expect cold weather and rain for the rest of the week.
It told commuters to be careful as they leave London tonight, warning of hail, rain, sleet and snow.

Temperatures could fall as low as minus 1C tonight in London and the south east. Hail and thunderstorms are also expected.

The Met Office also issued a yellow severe weather warning in northern England and southern Scotland.
Up to 5cm of snow could settle in areas 200 metres above sea level, and up to 10cm of snow could hit areas above 400m, the Met Office warned.
Meanwhile showers and longer spells of rain are expected overnight in the UK with frost and patchy fog tomorrow morning before sunshine and showers hit tomorrow.
Low pressure over the UK was blamed for the likelihood of showers and wet weather, though the south east should experience 10C temperatures on average, better than the UK’s 5C to 6C.

Forecasts promise brighter, warmer weather towards the end of the week in London and the south east, when Friday will bring warm and sunny spells before the weekend heralds cloudy, cooler weather.
