Rose ready to blossom at Masters
ENGLAND’S Justin Rose believes he is in great shape going into the Masters this week but is wary of over preparing for Augusta.
Rose has started this year in good form, finishing fifth and third in his last two tournaments. But he says he has learnt his lesson from last year’s Open, where he arrived as one of the favourites but missed the cut.
“It’s nice to be going back to Augusta in a decent run of form, but having said that I went into The Open last year on a pretty hot run,” said Rose. “The mistake I’ve tried not to repeat is over-preparing. From my second win I went straight to the JP McManus Pro-am in Ireland for two days and then went straight to St Andrews for three or four days.
“It might have been a bit of overkill. But I feel like I’m in a good spot now – I don’t think my preparation could have been any better.”
Rose admits that it is easy to obsess over winning the famous green jacket and the acclaimed course in Augusta.
“The Masters is the one tournament we pros probably over-prepare for,” he added. “We love going up there a week or two before.”
