PwC acquires Edinburgh-based consultancy Praxism UK to strengthen its cyber security offering

Professional services firm PwC has today announced that it is acquiring consultancy Praxism UK to strengthen its cyber security offering.

The Edinburgh-based consultancy company was founded in 2008 and specialises in identity and access management.

Praxism's 13 employees, along with the company's founder and director Derek Gordon, will mostly be joining PwC's Edinburgh office, although one specialist will be moving to the Leeds office.

"With more high profile breaches inevitably making the news, cyber risk continues to be a focus point for boards and it’s unlikely that this will change in the short to medium term," said James Chalmers, UK head of assurance at PwC. "For corporates, one of the most cited audit issues is managing user identity. This is more than just a basic technology control as it enables firms to drive their digital business within a controlled risk environment."

Gordon added: "I'm delighted that Praxism is joining with PwC. The opportunity this affords our people and our business is outstanding and clearly recognises the shared culture and values between our organisations."

Last week, PwC revealed that it was appointing a new team dedicated to exploring blockchain – the technology which underpins virtual currency bitcoin – as a result of increasing customer demand for such expertise.

The blockchain team, which will be based in Belfast, currently has 15 members of staff, but the firm plans to expand this to 40 by the end of the year.
