A rare opportunity to build from scratch in a naturalist’s paradise in the New Forest. Planning permission has been granted to erect “a new, contemporary country house”. Sitting on 13 acres, of which 11.5 are ancient woodland so special it is designated a Countryside Heritage Site, the property is set away from the road and offers secluded beauty with a host of birds and animals living in the wood. SMOKERS FACE HOUSING CRISIS
New research shows that smokers are facing a crisis in housing as growing intolerance rules them out for flatshares. A survey conducted by Easyroomate.co.uk says that just 7 per cent of landlords allow smoking in their properties and 38 per cent say they will evict lodgers for smoking indoors. It says that 370,000 smokers are stuck in non-smoking flat-shares. With property prices on the up, smokers are stuggling to find the cash to buy their own house in which to smoke.

DETACHED HOUSE PRICES SOAR
The average price of a detached family home has risen by £91 per day over the past year, more than any other property type, according to new research by Halifax. The average price of a detached property rose by 13 per cent from £266,000 in the second quarter of 2009 to £299,295 year-on-year. Prices for all other property types rose by 8-9 per cent over the same period. Suren Thiru, of Halifax, says: “The changing pattern of homes bought reflects the increasing trend of living alone.”
