The founders of DeepMind appear to be paying it forward after finding huge success with their own startup which sold to Google for £400m.

Demis Hassabis and Mustafa Suleyman are reportedly forming a network of "super angel" investors across Europe to invest in other startups at the early stage.

Both founders have already made several personal investments in startups, backing London healthtech Babylon Health and fashion site Thread, both powered by artificial intelligence, as well Cambridge-based Focal Point Positioning.

The efforts would signal a maturing of the tech ecosystem in Europe, as founders who have exited use their cash to back a fresh generation of startups. For example Brent Hoberman, a founder of UK dotcom triumph Lastminute.com, who has gone on to back several startups personally as well as creating startup accelerator Founders Factory.
