Lion king Geech returns to take director role at Bath
BRITISH LIONS legend Sir Ian McGeechan is back in the Premiership after agreeing to become performance director at Bath.
The 63-year-old has been out of the game since leaving Wasps after the 2009 Lions tour, but has now signed a two-year-deal with the Recreation Ground club, to work alongside head coach Steve Meehan.
“I am delighted to become part of a club that is developing the infrastructure on and off the pitch to achieve long-term success and become one of the strongest clubs in Europe,” said McGeechan, who led the Lions on four occasions.
“I am really looking forward to working with Steve Meehan, Martin Haag and Brad Davis as well as the academy and the strength and conditioning teams to assist wherever I can to ensure that this squad and club continues to grow from strength to strength.”
McGeechan won the Premiership, Heineken Cup and Anglo-Welsh Cup during his successful four-year spell in charge at Wasps. He briefly returned to the English top-flight last season to work in an advisory role at Gloucester, but is now back with a hands-on coaching role in a bid to lead Bath to a first major trophy since the 1998 Heineken Cup.

“His contribution to rugby union is unrivalled and he has been at the forefront of rugby development for many years now – really, he needs no introduction.”
