Job interview questions from some of the UK’s top accountancy firms, including PwC, Deloitte, KPMG and EY

If yesterday's banking interview questions left you in a tizzy, maybe accountancy is more your cup of tea. City PM went back on careers website Glassdoor.com to find out just what calibre of questions wannabe bean counters and spreadsheet drafters could expect from their potential employers.

PwC

  • Senior accountant: If you were to be re-incarnated as an animal, what type would you be and why?
  • TS business modelling: If you were to write an autobiography, what would the name of the book be?
  • Graduate data analyst: How many tennis balls fit in a double decker?

Deloitte

  • Associate: Tell me about a time when you had to deliver a difficult message.
  • Management consultant: Why is excellence important?

KPMG

  • Strategy manager: If a pub had six staff, four of which worked part time on four hours a day at £8 per hour, how much would your monthly overhead be for staff costs assuming an eight hour day and six day working week?
  • Analyst – transactions and restructuring: Who audits Facebook? Name the current CFO of Facebook.

EY

  • Senior consultant: Draw a geometric figure with seven dots and minimum number of straight lines and calculate the base (approximation acceptable).
  • BI & data transformation manager: How will you measure the water flowing under London Bridge in single day?
  • Director: What will you be famous for?
  • Analyst: Do you think there should be more hours in the day?

Smith & Williamson

  • Trainee in audit: What do you think are the downsides of being an accountant?
