Update 12/09/2015: The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa) has apologised after mistakenly including Conservative MP Edward Timpson in a list of 26 current and former MPs who had debts written off after they failed to pay back of up to £500.

Ipsa chief executive Marcial Boo wrote to Timpson accepting responsibility.

He said: “Due to an error in our system, the £127.70 still appeared to be outstanding when we looked at the data again, so it was written off.

“I apologise that we did not resolve this error sooner. We will now amend our published data to reflect this.”

In total £2,105.43 was written off by Ipsa in its list.

The Commons watchdog said the debts were “amounts less than £500 where it is not cost-effective for Ipsa to pursue recovery of the debts any further”. It added:

All MPs have been contacted several times about these outstanding sums.

The list includes parliamentary under secretary of state for the foreign and commonwealth office Tobias Ellwood.

The claims range from parking, to food and drink, to transport costs and stationery purchases.
