Horseracing: David Pipe looks at his chances this weekend

WE HAVE a runner in the big race of the day at Haydock tomorrow where the ground could well be pretty horrible with rain and sleet forecast.

That is ideal for DAKLONDIKE, who takes his chance in the Peter Marsh Chase (3.15pm) having won the Tommy Whittle at the track last month.

This race is over a little further which should suit and the visor, which worked a treat last time, is back on again.

I suppose it just comes down to which Daklondike turns up. He seems to have two ways of running, as his recent form figures of 11PP1 suggest!

He battled back to win really nicely here in December and can go well again if in the same mood as he seems in great form at home.

Final declarations for Taunton tomorrow won’t be made until later this morning, but I’m likely to have a couple of runners.

JASMIN DES BORDES will take his chance in the novices’ hurdle (2.15pm) having made a nice start over obstacles at Chepstow on Welsh Grand National day.

He should cope fine with the better ground and I’m hopeful he can be in the mix. There is every chance he might make a lovely chaser in time.

The plan is also to run either OURMULLION or AIRTON in the other novices’ hurdle (1.40pm), but I haven’t made up my mind which of the two will line up yet.

Ourmullion made a pleasing debut for us on the Flat at Lingfield last month and has schooled nicely at home since.

Airton is a horse we picked up at the horses-in-training sales and is another who is progressing well in the yard.

Looking at the entries, it could be quite a hot contest if the top ones stay in and, if that is the case, whichever I run could well be up against it.
