Horse Racing Betting Tips: Nerium will send punters into delirium in Princess Elizabeth

THERE was a sense of what might have been for those punters who backed ANNA NERIUM in last year’s Princess Elizabeth Stakes.

Richard Hannon’s four-year-old was drawn wide and forced to sit out the back for the majority of the race, only really getting going when the eventual winner Wilamina was away and gone.

She absolutely stormed home and had it been for a slightly more positive ride, I’m convinced she would have won.

Having finished down the field in the Coronation Stakes on her next start, the daughter of Dubawi was campaigned over seven furlongs for the remainder of the 2018 season, where a win in the Group Three Supreme Stakes at Goodwood was the highlight.

She was given a pipe-opener to begin her 2019 campaign on the all-weather at Kempton, before barely being touched off by one of today’s rivals Awesometank at Goodwood last month.

Both of those were back over a mile and her breeding suggests that trip is much more to her liking.

I’m hoping she’ll get a clearer passage this year and Hannon’s inmate looks the bet at 11/2 with Ladbrokes.

Sir Michael Stoute has been banging in winners left, right and centre recently and his Veracious has to be respected.

The daughter of Frankel is the top-rated runner in the line-up, but she was disappointing when fourth behind Worth Waiting in the Dahlia Stakes at Newmarket on her seasonal reappearance.

Ryan Moore didn’t give her a hard time and she should come on for the run, but even still, she looks plenty short enough at 15/8.

A repeat of placed efforts in Group Ones at Royal Ascot and Goodwood from last season would be good enough to take this, but there’s plenty to prove after that Newmarket run.

She’s the main danger, but a positive mention must also be given to Awesometank.

William Haggas’ runner rarely runs a bad race, having finished out of the first two on just four occasions in 12 career starts.

She got the better of Anna Nerium at Goodwood and is another worthy contender, but I’ll stick with Hannon’s runner who can give him a first win in the race.
