The UN Habitat World Cities Day 2023 took place in Istanbul this year, bringing together visionaries and leaders in urban development from across the globe. Vemi Ventures was honoured to be invited to participate in discussions about charting a new course in sustainable financing for cities and urban centres.

Vemi Ventures: The Ethical Banking Revolution

Vemi Ventures is a new ethical and Shariah-compliant financial services group that seeks to be at the forefront of ethical banking and sustainable investment. Our approach intertwines core values of fairness, transparency and financial inclusion with innovation to make lives better. We feel our mission resonates deeply with the aims of UN Habitat of addressing urban challenges through innovative solutions.

Strategic Engagement for Global Impact

We were proud to be able to use the event as a platform to sign letters of intent with both UN Habitat and the Sustainable Human Settlements Foundation – cementing our partnership to underscore our commitment to ethical wealth creation and urban revitalisation.

We don’t see ESG as a tick-box exercise, or just the new corporate fad. At Vemi, we believe purpose-driven and value-led finance is key to finding the solutions to the major problems of the day. Ensuring that our products pay out a social dividend as well as returns to our investors is central to all that we’ll be doing. Using these wider metrics may be the crucial factor in unlocking finance for cities – and something that we will be exploring in our work with UN Habitat.

A Visionary Role in Urban Futures

Vemi Ventures’ involvement in the UN Habitat World Cities Day in Istanbul could be a pivotal moment in our journey, highlighting the role we can play in shaping the future of sustainable financing. Our commitment to ethical banking, investment in sustainable solutions, and partnership in managing a global fund for urban development exemplifies the leadership needed to drive positive change. As cities continue to evolve, the innovative and ethical approaches championed by Vemi Ventures could be instrumental in ensuring their sustainability and resilience for future generations.
