Dalglish: Fixture pile-up a joke
LIVERPOOL manager Kenny Dalglish has branded the scheduling of tonight’s Carling Cup quarter final against Chelsea “irresponsible”.
The Scot believes the Professional Footballers’ Association should have stepped in to help avoid a scenario which sees his side forced to travel to Stamford Bridge just two days after Sunday’s league 1-1 draw against Manchester City.
“Forty-eight hours is a bit irresponsible for the people who’ve organised the dates of the matches. It’s not just us, it’s Man City,” he said.
“To ask any team or any players to play two games of high intensity in 48 hours is a bit of a joke.
“I don’t know why the PFA (Professional Footballers’ Association) don’t come in and say something about it – it’s their players. For me it’s difficult to understand why they don’t come out and say something.”
Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas, meanwhile, will be without suspended captain John Terry and the cup-tied Raul Meireles, but youngsters Josh McEachran and Romelu Lukaku are likely to be handed rare starts.
