Crouch set to join Defoe and Redknapp at Spurs

TOTTENHAM manager Harry Redknapp is set to reunite Peter Crouch with former strike partner Jermaine Defoe after having a bid of around £10m accepted by Portsmouth for the England forward.

Redknapp successfully paired Crouch with Defoe during his time in charge at Fratton Park and, having lured one of them to White Hart Lane in January, he is now poised to take the other.

“They want to sell him Crouch, it’s common knowledge they need to sell him,” said Redknapp, who added that terms were close to being settled. “I don’t think they’re crazy demands – it’s a fair deal and his wages are fine.

“He’s different. He holds the ball up. We don’t do that well enough. He gives you an option and he’s played for me a few times before. He’s always done a job and he’s great on set-plays at both ends.”

Crouch’s arrival, which could be sealed today, will end Redknapp’s pursuit of Real Madrid’s Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and could spell the end of Darren Bent’s time at Spurs. Bent missed several chances as Redknapp’s men lost 2-0 to Celtic in the Wembley Cup pre-season tournament yesterday, and Sunderland are though to be his most likely destination.

“Darren is looking to go but it’s up to people to make the offer that we want,” he said. “He’s a good player but I just want some balance and Crouchy would give us something different.”
