Transport for London (TfL) confirmed that demonstrators were "intermittently" blocking the road, and drivers should expect delays.

A bit reminiscent of 28 days later…. Vauxhall Bridge Road today…. Apparently the protestors are forming a roaming road block every light change on the actual bridge….. pic.twitter.com/qHipOCBA7w

Marble Arch, Oxford Circus, Parliament Square and Waterloo Bridge also remain closed to traffic today, as activists vowed not to move until politicians meet their demands for a zero-carbon economy by 2025.

The movement's co-founder, Gail Bradbrook, told the BBC this morning "if democracy is not being honoured, then people have the right to mass disruption".

She called on people to "take time off work and join us…have fun rebelling".

More than 400 people have been arrested so far and West End businesses have complained that the action has cost them at least £12m in lost sales as footfall dropped by 25 per cent.

A group of activists also glued themselves together outside Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn's north London house to encourage him to go further with the party's green policies.
