CITY A.M. CELEBRATES A BIRTHDAY IN STYLE

The Capitalist has been a regular guest at City parties over the past year, but it’s fair to say that none instilled a sense of pride quite like entering The Lamb pub in Leadenhall Market on Friday lunchtime.

Friends, colleagues and supporters of City PM gathered at the pub – itself a beacon of Square Mile history, having stood on the site for nearly 230 years – to celebrate no less than 1,000 editions of this paper. Snacking on roast beef and roast pork and sipping champagne, gin and tonics and good old pints of lager, the chat at the party turned to how far we have come since our humble beginnings just over four years ago.

“At that time, we had our doubters,” began City PM chief executive Jens Torpe in his speech, referring to claims by media commentators that the paper would not last beyond a few weeks. “But I’m happy to say, we’ve proved them wrong.”

Wrong those doubting Toms most certainly were: after one thousand and one mornings of hard news, insightful commentary, lifestyle, sport and – of course – fun and gossip, we hope our readers look forward with us to many prosperous years to come.
