Chelsea have submitted a planning application to Hammersmith and Fulham Council for a new 60,000 capacity stadium at Stamford Bridge.

The Premier League champions want to demolish their current 42,000 capacity ground and replace it with a state-of-the-art design capable of holding 60,000 people in order to boost matchday revenue.

Chelsea are still searching for a temporary home while the £500m redevelopment is under construction, with the club hierarchy believed to favour a stay at Wembley for a period of up to four years.

The club claims its new stadium will offer "outstanding view of the stadium from every seat" and is "designed to create an exciting atmosphere".

The planning process is expected to last beyond the end of this season.
