The offices of the French car manufacturer which owns Peugeot have been raided as a global crackdown on emissions testing in the car industry rumbles on.

PSA Group has issued a statement on its website to say it had been "the subject of a visit and a seizure by France's General Directorate for Competition Policy, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control".

The PSA Group statement went on to say that the company would be fully cooperating with the authorities and that it confirmed "compliance of its vehicles in pollutant emissions in all countries where it operates".

Also today, a report by the UK's Department for Transport revealed that some of the most popular diesel cars in the country produced emissions up to 12 times higher than the amount advertised by their manufacturer. The Peugeot 3008 was identified as producing emissions up to 12 times the legal limit.

Mitsubishi Motors has had its offices raided by the Japanese authorities earlier on today, after the car maker admitted on Wednesday that it had falsified some of its fuel economy tests data.
