Betting: Maria can be Amazing for backers in Falmouth Stakes

Friday's Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket (4.15pm) is a one-horse race according to the bookmakers, with French raider Usherette currently as short as 4/7.

Andre Fabre’s filly has won four of her five career starts to date including last time out in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot.

This daughter of Sharmadal is clearly a major player, but at the prices available I would rather back AMAZING MARIA each-way at 7/1.

David O’Meara’s mare won the race last year and put in a really good performance in the Queen Anne last month where the ground was much too soft for her.

She has to turn around the form with Usherette, having finished third behind her at Newmarket in May, but the grey will appreciate the quicker conditions and the stable is in great form.

Elsewhere on the card, Andover trainer Ralph Beckett will be hoping BLETCHLEY can get back to winning ways in the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes (3.45pm).

She ran an absolute cracker in the Albany Stakes at Ascot last month to finish a short-head runner-up behind Aidan O’Brien’s Brave Anna.

That was an impressive second outing having shocked punters at 25/1 when winning a maiden on debut at Nottingham.

This looks a weak renewal of the race and this daughter of Makfi is surely the one to beat with Betway offering 9/4.

Charlie Appleby’s Nasimi appears to be the main danger, having won well on debut at Haydock.

The form of that race has since been boosted with second-place Nations Alexander winning at Newmarket.

Both line up in the field today, but have something to find with the talented Bletchley.
