Best mobile network for Londoners: EE and Vodafone crowned winners of first London stress test

EE and Vodafone have been crowned the best mobile networks for Londoners in the first performance stress test focusing specifically on the capital.

Mobile performance tends to… vary between urban and rural areas, to say the least, but now a London winner has finally been found.

Providers were put to the test across London’s urban zones to see how well they coped with the strain of the most densely populated areas, from Chelsea to Canary Wharf and the City, at the city’s airports, shopping centres, train stations and busy venues.

EE was the clear winner of the test, winning or tying for 15 of the 19 categories, unsurprising as EE also swept away the competition at a similar stress test made at national level.

But Vodafone has was a strong runner-up, taking home seven of the categories.

RootMetric, a leading independent mobile analytics firm, compared EE, Three, Vodafone and O2, measuring network reliability, calls, texting, speeds, mobile internet, and overall performance.

Scott Stonham, director of international strategic accounts at RootMetrics, said:

London is one of the most densely populated cities in the world and this report gives a scientific indication of how likely you are to enjoy solid mobile performance in some of its busiest locations.

A good mobile service is a vital part of a city’s basic infrastructure and while we can achieve good performance across the capital, our data shows networks have some room for improvement when it comes to handling demand in large venues.
