Here’s some news that’ll put a smile on any EE customer’s face: the operator has been crowned the best-performing mobile network in the UK in an independent study by RootMetrics.

EE won a clean sweep of all categories, providing customers with both the best speed and reliability. But competitor Three proved a strong rival, coming second in five of the six categories tested.

Chris Smith, general manager for RootMetrics Europe, commented that EE has continued to perform well, as the operator also won last year:

EE is continuing to come out on top for mobile performance, but there is a heated – and often close – battle with the other operators

RootMetric, a leading independent mobile analytics firm, compared EE, Three, Vodafone and O2, measuring network reliability, calls, texting, speeds, mobile internet, and overall performance.

Our growing reliance on our mobiles means network performance has a direct impact on our daily lives, and consumers deserve a comprehensive, unbiased, real-world picture of performance. From watching video on the go to taking part in Whatsapp conversations, we’re on our phones and when our connection is lousy, we notice.

The good news, no matter which operator you use, is that they've all improved against previous results.

RootMetrics’ study involved driving nearly 24,000 miles across the UK, collecting 1.1m test samples across the country.
