Antivaxxers targeting Tesco Christmas ad set to complain to advertising watchdog
The antivaxxers who began the #BoycottTesco trend at the weekend have reportedly arranged a campaign to complain to the Advertising Standards Authority.
Tesco became the latest subject to antivax protest after it included a double vaccinated Santa in its Christmas advert.
Antivaxxers, those who have been against the Covid-19 vaccine rollout, took to Twitter to protest the advert, which pushed #BoycottTesco to trend on the social media platform.
Though the group has swelled into the thousands, the i reported, and have coordinated a protest via encrypted messaging app Telegram to fill trolleys full of goods and abandon them at checkouts between November 15 and 22.
The messages spread through the group reportedly encourage members to send official complaints to the UK’s advertising watchdog.
GB News presenter Tonia Buxton tweeted on Sunday: “#BoycottTesco Bad move. Take this ad down now.”
Others on Twitter at the weekend referred to the inclusion of a vaccinated Santa as reinforcing “medical apartheid”, others said the festive advert was an example of “fascism”.
City PM has contacted Tesco for comment.
