Hunt out your hat: London’s mercury to fall to –3 degrees Celsius

London is set for an Arctic blast early next week with temperatures plunging well below freezing.

A high pressure weather front is due to hit the UK from the North-East and the Met Office has warned temperatures could fall as low as -3 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

While, the capital has been spared temperatures at teeth-chatting levels in the second half of the year so far, the forecast suggests – if you haven't already – it is time to grab your hat, scarf and gloves to fend off the Baltic blast.

Still just under month before Christmas, questions will be asked as to whether the forthcoming cold front could be the start of an icy December. Bookies are already eagerly offering odds on a White Christmas with London priced at 7/2 to have a sprinkling of snow.

The last widespread White Christmas was in 2010 according to the Met Office.
