Fancy a game of Fundball? Investment firm Allianz is setting up a financial fantasy football league

Traders know that the only way to make fantasy football more fun is to swap the football part for market conditions.

At least that's the view of money-makers at investment firm Allianz. As the fund manager launches it's fantasy trading game European Equities 2016, global strategist Neil Dwane reckons "there are many parallels between football management and fund management".

Unofficially known as Fundball at the firm's offices, the game aims to replicate the fun and competitive edge of traditional fantasy football adored by the City's fund managers with hard facts and finance.

Dwane told The Capitalist: "We hope users will find it an engaging way to learn some of the basic principles of investing and to demonstrate to their friends how much they already know, or think they know, about fund management."

The game has been designed to be accessible to everyone from financial newbies to the professional investor, with emphasis on stock selection rather than results meaning that no real numerical literacy is needed.

Coinciding with the Euro 2016, the stocks selected for Fundball will "represent" their country as the football tournament unfolds.

Just like regular fantasy football, players who log onto the website will be allowed to compete in private leagues against their friends, family and colleagues.
