Four London schools have been evacuated this morning following a bomb threat.

Police confirmed that four schools had been evacuated but they have not been officially named.

However, according to local paper the Wimbledon Guardian, quoted two parents saying their children had been evacuated from Ricards Lodge High School in Lake Road, Wimbledon.

One source, who asked to remain anonymous, told the paper there were several police officers at the school. Children had first been taken onto the playing field, before being moved further away from the school building, he added.

Another said her daugher had called her "from the field, hysterical, as she was told it was a bomb scare."

Two other sources identified Raynes Park High School as the second institution affected.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman told City PM: "Police were informed of four separate calls made to schools across London this morning (26 January) claiming a suspicious device had been left at their premises.

"The schools have been evacuated as a precaution while the incidents are looked into.

"At this stage, the incidents are being treated as malicious communications."

Separately, six schools have been evacuated in Birmingham and the Black Country over another bomb scare this morning, although police have said there is "no credible threat" behind the calls.

Last week, four schools in the West Midlands were also evacuated over a bomb threat.
