Anya Hindmarch tells BCC conference: “I fire myself at the end of each working day”

At the British Chamber of Commerce (BCC) conference yesterday, handbag designer Anya Hindmarch let everyone into a few trade secrets. For a start, she has a graffiti painting behind her desk which reads, “scary.” It’s not just a warning to her staff to get her coffee order right, it also reminds her that scary is exciting. Quite.

She also spoke about “firing herself” as chief exec of her handbag empire – she stepped down as boss in 2011 to take on a more creative role.

But it seems the firing didn’t stop there. “In my mind, I fire myself at the end of each working day and come in as my successor each morning,” she said. “It keeps me on my toes.”

Gosh, we’re not surprised. The P45s must be piling up too.
