Zlatan Ibrahimovic has almost doubled his money at Paris Saint-German with a new contract worth more than £1m a month, according to local reports in France.

The Swedish superstar's lucrative new salary makes him the best-paid player in France ahead of PSG teammate Thiago Silva.

Ibrahimovic's contract with the Qatari-owned club is set to expire at the end of the current campaign but according to Le Parisien, Ibrahimovic and his agent Mino Raiola have negotiated a bumper pay rise from €800,000 (£608,000) to €1.5m a month for the final months of the deal.

The 34-year-old has remained a talismanic force for French champions PSG this season, netting 17 goals in 17 Ligue 1 appearances.

It is also believed that Ibrahimovic has been promised large bonuses in the eventuality of him finishing the league's top scorer, PSG winning the Champions League or PSG winning Ligue 1.

In the Premier League, Ibrahimovic's new salary is bettered only by Rooney who earns roughly £1.2m a month at Manchester United.

Even before Zlatan's new deal, and the arrival of Angel Di Maria in Paris, PSG's total wage bill had been identified as the biggest in all of sports with the club paying an average yearly salary of £5.3m.

The financial might of the club has also been acknowledged in French sports newspaper L'Equipe, which has reported that PSG are ready to spend €100m on Cristiano Ronaldo or €200m on Neymar in the summer as a replacement for the enigmatic Ibrahimovic.
