BASLE (2) VS FULHAM (3)

BOBBY ZAMORA notched an impressive brace to help Fulham seal qualification to the last 32 of the Europa League as Group E runners-up.

In-form Zamora gave the Cottagers the lead with a neat finish from Bjorn Helge Riise’s cross on 42 minutes.

He then doubled the advantage with a header from the same source three minutes later for his fourth goal in three games.

Swiss international striker Alexander Frei pulled one back from the penalty spot for the hosts after Chris Smalling had handled, but the Cottagers stood their ground and Zoltan Gera restored the two-goal advantage with a close-range finish.

Marco Strellar ensured a nervous last few moments for the visitors with a late goal back, but Fulham held on comfortably for a famous victory.

Hodgson’s men will now avoid fellow English clubs Liverpool and Everton in the first knockout round, but could be drawn with the likes of Juventus, Benfica or Marseille.
