Winter breaks are all about curling up in a flash hotel

THE nights, as you will have noticed, are starting to get darker earlier. Rain is falling more often. Coats, scarves and gloves are beginning to emerge from wardrobes. In short, winter is coming.

At this time of year, if you are going to take a European city break you are not going to be doing a lot of lounging in pavement cafes or walking in parks. Of course, you can take refuge in galleries or warm your bones with a cappuccino, but for a break in the winter months, the hotel should be the star.

With a decent restaurant, a nice spa and pool and comfortable rooms for you to lounge in, there are plenty of things to keep your entertained while you wait for the rain to stop falling. In fact, you might not ever want to leave. We look at some of the top hotels to while a way a weekend.
