A WEEKEND is a long time in sport, as this lot will attest. But while for some it was one to remember, others may wish they had never got out of bed.

WINNER
ANDREW STRAUSS
Captain Marvel was at it again at Headingley yesterday, silencing his one-day doubters with a magificent century to guide England to a 2-0  series lead against Pakistan. Now that’s leading from the front.

WINNER
DAVID BECKHAM
Returned to action with LA Galaxy after six months out with an Achilles injury. “I felt good and finished strongly”, said the former England captain, who came on as a 70th-minute substitute.

WINNER
KIM CLIJSTERS
The defending champion continued her love affair with Flushing Meadows after cruising to a third US Open title with a embarrassingly easy 6-2, 6-1 victory over Vera Zvonareva.

LOSER
RICKY HATTON
The boxing legend’s reputation is in tatters after being secretly filmed allegedly snorting cocaine. He now faces the fight of his life with PR guru Max Clifford admitting: “He’s in a bad place”.

LOSER
LEWIS HAMILTON
Only had himself to blame after an unnecessary move to overtake Felipe Massa forced him to retire from the Italian Grand Prix on the very first lap and lose his lead at the top of the drivers’ standings.
