Nick Kyrgios has avoided the maximum possible £12,860 fine for appearing to give up during his fourth-round encounter with Richard Gasquet at Wimbledon, but will still see more than £6,000 wiped from his Wimbledon prize money earnings.

Both players have been fined for misconduct during the match won by Gasquet in four sets

Australian Kyrgios will have £1,295 docked from his tournament prize money of £127,000 for misdeeds during his loss to the Frenchman, who will lose £1,943 from his eventual winnings for racket abuse.

The 20-year-old Kyrgios stoked controversy for his unpredictable on-court behaviour yesterday when he flicked his racket into the crowd, picked up a court violation for swearing, argued with umpire James Keothavong over how long he was taking to change his socks and instigated jeers after appearing to 'tank' during a game in the second set.

Kyrgios' audible obscenity will mean £1,295 docked from his winnings to add to the £4,860 fine he received for "unsportsmanlike behaviour" in his third round win over Milos Raonic – cutting his total take home to £120,845.

Gasquet's frustration with the youngster's mini-revival in the third set prompted him to smash his racket against his seat, earning him the £1,943 deduction from his minimum prize money of £241,000.

However, both players avoided the maximum possible fine for their actions of $20,000 (£12,860), as determined by the International Tennis Federation.
