Williams beat Sharapova for the 17th consecutive time to reach her eighth Wimbledon final, where she will meet Spanish surprise package Garbine Muguruza tomorrow.

The American, 33, swept past the Russian – who beat her to the title in 2004 but has lost all of their meetings since – 6-2, 6-4 to reach her first final at the All England Club since 2012.

A sixth Wimbledon singles title would see her hold all four grand slams at once – a so-called Serena Slam – for the second time.
