Wheeeeeeeee! Tickets for the giant Olympic Park Orbit slide have gone on sale

Time to treat your inner child – tickets have gone on sale for the highly anticipated giant slide at the Orbit Tower in London's Olympic Park.

How giant? It happens to be the longest and tallest tunnel slide in Europe. Nice one London.

Tickets will cost £17 – the current £12 cost of climbing the Anish Kapoor designed ArcelorMittal Orbit itself on the day, plus a fiver to slide your way down. Or, if you're planning ahead, £15 in total, and there are cheaper tickets for students, seniors and children. The slide opens on 24 June but tickets are available now and can be booked online.

You'll slide from top to bottom of the 178m tower, originally built for the London 2012 Olympics, in just 40 seconds, winding around the tower 12 times at 15mph.

The addition to the slide, created by German designer Carsten Höller, the park hopes to attract more. The London Legacy Development Corporation claims the addition will help it recoup the £3.5m spent on building the entire tower within the next five years.

Anyone who doesn't fancy reliving their childhood can still visit the tower and make their way back down via the traditional – though much less thrilling – stairs.

Tickets can be booked for between 10.30am and 5pm and for every day of the week, including weekends, but you do have to pick a time slot when booking.

Notably, it can also be booked out for corporate events. We hope several City institutions take full advantage of the new facilities when planning their summer dos.
