Rugby World Cup 2015: We can cause upset, insists coach John McKee
Fiji head coach John McKee insists his side are a more potent unit now than when they last faced Wales 10 months ago, a game which saw Warren Gatland’s outfit suffer an almighty scare.
The Pacific Islanders lost 17-13 at the Millennium Stadium in November and have previous for dousing the principality’s World Cup hopes, having knocked Wales out of the 2007 tournament following a pool stage win in Nantes.
“We are a better team now than we were last November,” said McKee. “We’ve got the core group from then, and through our work in preparation for this World Cup we are a better team.
“That result gives us some confidence going into the game because we know we can compete really well with them, and we know we need to be at our absolute best on the night to be competitive.”
Fiji, however, will be without influential wing Nemani Nadolo, who has scored 16 of his team’s 24 points in the competition, due to the one-match ban which was imposed followed his dangerous tackle against Australia in last week’s Pool A clash. McKee’s side are also without injured scrum-half Niko Matawalu.
