Wales boss fears Giteau backlash
WALES coach Warren Gatland is backing Australia star Matt Giteau to bounce back from his Murrayfield agony.
Giteau missed a host of kicks and a last-gasp conversion as the Wallabies crashed to a 9-8 defeat to Scotland – their first to the Scots in 27 years.
But Gatland, however, expects no such repeat when Giteau and his pumped-up Wallabies lock horns with the Dragons at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday. “Matt Giteau is a real competitor,” Gatland said. “Champion players don’t tend to back up with poor performances twice in a row, and we are all expecting Matt to play really well on Saturday.”
Kiwi Gatland, in fact, says he will be paying no attention to Saturday’s shock result, insisting the tourists still did enough to win the game.
“Australia should not have lost, they created so many opportunities,” he added. “It was a great win for Scotland, and you have got to congratulate them, but if that game was played 99 times out of 100 and Australia took their chances, they would have won.”
