Vue Cinemas has upped its food and drink offering in its newly refurbished Leicester Square site, which has been a cinema since 1938.

The chain has put £6.6m into redeveloping its West End flagship, which reopens tonight. The site was originally built by Warner Brothers, and was taken over by Vue when the company absorbed the Warner Village chain in 2003.

Vue has added all the bells and whistles to the cinema, including a 62.7 square metre digital screen on the front of the building.

As consumer spend turns towards leisure experiences, the cinema has redesigned the bar and foyer added two new hot food concessions: Square Pie and Pizzeria Maletti.

Tim Richards, founder and CEO of Vue International said: “I am delighted to re-open this iconic venue, one with a heritage in big screen entertainment dating back to 1938.

"In this flagship we have redefined the big screen experience, setting new standards for out of home entertainment."
