US Presidential Election 2016: Donald Trump has lashed out at the FBI after Hillary Clinton was cleared of an email scandal (again)

Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump has lashed out at the FBI for closing its inquiry into Hillary Clinton's emails for a second time.

James Comey, director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, said no criminal charges against the Democratic nominee were warranted. In a letter to Congress, Comey said the agency had worked "around the clock" to review thousands of newly-discovered emails and had found no reason to change the conclusion it reached in July.

The FBI controversially launched a new investigation into Clinton's use of a private email account to transfer sensitive records on 28 October.

Trump, speaking at a rally in Michigan, said it would have been impossible for the organisation to go through hundreds of thousands of emails in such a short amount of time, adding that she is being "protected by a rigged system".

"Hillary Clinton is guilty, she knows it, the FBI knows it, the people know it and now it's up to the American people to deliver justice at the ballot box on November 8," Trump added at the rally in Sterling Heights, a suburb of Detroit.

He pledged that the investigation "will go on" and that other FBI agents "won't let her get away with her terrible crimes".

House of Representatives speaker Paul Ryan also attacked the FBI's latest ruling, saying: "She simply believes she's above the law and always plays by her own rules."

He added that Clinton's use of a private email server during her time as Secretary of State "compromised our national security".
