Business group the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has a new chairman after the retirement of former chair Mark Adams.

Jeffrey Adams, chairman of London housing developer United House Group, was elected at last night’s annual general meeting.

The board recommended that Jeffrey Adams – who was previously headed up LCCI’s property and construction committee – should succeed Mark Adams, who retired after three years of service.

Meanwhile, Geoffrey Riesel, who chairs taxi holding company Mountview House Group, was elected deputy chairman.

LCCI's chief executive, Colin Stanbridge said:

This was a momentous year in many ways and it is notable that we continued to grow in membership despite increasing competition and the background of a delicate economic environment.

We continue to do all that we can to ensure that we remain relevant, that members continue to be able to make a wide range of connections through their membership and that we deliver the exceptional level of customer service rightly expected of us.

LCCI president, Tony Pidgley – who's chairman of former FTSE 100 housebuilder Berkeley Group (and City PM's 2015 personality of the year) – also retired at the AGM, but a special resolution approved by members allowed him to extend his period following his re-election.

Subhash Thakrar will continue as deputy president under the same resolution.

The LCCI recently recommended the government back Heathrow for a second runway after the EU referendum following pledges from Gatwick that it would cap passenger numbers if it were picked for expansion.
