Unbeaten Twilight Son to be crowned king of the sprinters for Candy

The story of this year’s Flat season has undoubtedly been the dominance of the three-year-olds in the big sprints. They have simply taken their elders to the cleaners.

And if the betting market is right, the younger generation are going to plunder tomorrow’s British Champions Sprint (1.20pm) as well.

Muhaarar took the Commonwealth Cup before going on to land a Group One hat-trick with the July Cup and Prix Maurice de Gheest.

Charlie Hills’ sprinter is outstanding but, as with Solow, he’s had a long season and I just wonder if the others might have caught up with him slightly.

The Tin Man has been supplemented for this race on the back of an incredibly impressive handicap win over course and distance earlier this month. His trainer James Fanshawe won this race with Deacon Blues in 2011 and The Tin Man is a half-brother to that top sprinter.

He must be respected, but he has to find a lot and is now no bigger than 8/1 with Betway.

Henry Candy is another master with sprinters and I’m taking TWILIGHT SON to continue his unbeaten record after a gutsy win in the Sprint Cup last time.

Ryan Moore takes over in the saddle and, as long as stall 20 doesn’t prove to be a hindrance, he looks a good bet at 5/1 with Betway.

Strath Burn has to be respected as he almost ran down Twilight Son at Haydock last time, while Danzeno could bounce back.

My final selection on Champions Day is MUSADDAS in the competitive Balmoral Handicap that closes the card.

This looks the ideal race for this five-year-old and Edward Greatrex takes off an important 5lb. See if you can pick up some 14/1.

POINTERS
Twilight Son 1.20pm Ascot
Musaddas e/w 3.45pm Ascot
