Open banking is at a critical junction and the UK must capitalise on the head-start it already has, according to two industry experts.
Smart data might not always grab the headlines, but it’s the unsung hero behind one of the most innovative developments in our economy: open banking, says Lord McNicol

The UK’s first fossil-fuel-free major property development is set to be built in London and will be worth some £2.5bn.

The new South Bank neighbourhood, by property developer Native Land, will see the 1.4m sq ft space known as Bankside Yards be built with zero emissions in operation.

It includes more than 350,000 sq ft of offices, 50,000 sq ft of amenities, bars and restaurants and a hotel – alongside over 700 apartments for sale and rent.

Bankside Yards will have an all-electric energy network “on a scale not yet seen in the UK”, the property developer said.

With eight new buildings altogether, the development will also use heat pumps and ‘high-efficiency building services systems’ for it to hit net zero.

The project, which is expected to be completed next year, is also set to the “only underground robotic logistics network serving a major mixed-use development in central London”, Native Land added.

The robotics network is designed to ease emissions that often come from loading bays from van and lorry congestion.

Over three acres of green space will also be freed up, which will bolster the capital’s biodiversity.
