UFC 196 Conor McGregor v Nate Diaz purse: How much will fighters earn from biggest ever pay day?

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor is set to make $1m (£700,000/€900,000) from his fight with Nate Diaz at UFC 196 on Saturday night – the largest purse in the history of the sport.

The purses for the bout, disclosed by the Nevada State Athletic commission, reveal Diaz will earn just $500,000 with no win bonus.

McGregor's debut in the welterweight division will see him pick up the highest fight paycheque in the UFC's history, eclipsing the $800,000 earned by Anderson Silva at UFC 183 last year.

The motor-mouthed Irishman is one of the biggest draws in the sport; his 13-second knockout of Jose Aldo in December generated the highest gate receipts in the organisation's history at $10.1m and notched 1.2m pay-per-view buys, the second-highest in UFC history.

And McGregor is set to earn much more than the $1m fight fee on Saturday night once revenues from pay-per-view and ticket sales are distributed.

UFC fighters earn a higher cut of pay-per-views the more popular the event. According to previously reported figures, once an event gets over 100,000 buys each fighter earns $1 from every purchase but that rises to $3 when that hits 500,000 buys – as UFC 196 almost certainly will.

The 27-year-old has predicts he will "breeze past the $10m mark" for the fight.

Such is the excitement for the bout, yesterday's weigh-in alone scored a higher attendance than four of the last 10 UFC fights with 8,560 fans turning up to the MGM Grand Arena.

On the undercard of the event, female bantamweight champions Holly Holm will be paid $500,000 to take on Miesha Tate who is promised $46,000 and a further $46,000 for a win.
