Uber said it will expand its car sharing option UberPool to cover the entire length of the Piccadilly Line if the strike planned for this evening and tomorrow goes ahead.

The coverage area will be expanded from Cockfosters to both Heathrow and Uxbridge from 9pm tonight until 7am on Friday. UberPool is currently only available for trips beginning in central London or at Heathrow airport.

Uber said passengers using UberPool could save up to 25 per cent on journeys – for example a trip from Hammersmith to Russell Square is estimated to cost around £14.70.

“Uber is determined to help keep London moving if this week’s tube strike goes ahead," said Tom Elvidge, Uber's general manager in London.

"By expanding our car sharing option UberPool we can help more people get from A to B and make better use of the cars on the road. People who share their journey will not only save money but help a fellow Londoner get to work too.

“We’ll be doing all we can to get as many drivers as possible on the road at peak times."

Earlier today Tube drivers' union RMT confirmed that the strike action was set to go ahead, saying: "The hostile and aggressive attitude by tube bosses has collapsed the normal negotiating process."

Meanwhile, TfL has issued travel advice for affected commuters and travellers, and will be providing extra buses for the duration of the industrial action.
