Tube delays: Commuters face Tube misery as severe delays hit two lines

Commuters were left to suffer a torrid journey to work this morning with two key Tube and transport lines suffering severe delays and one part suspended.

The Bakerloo Line was running with severe delays after a signal failure at Queen’s Park this morning. At 11am it was still running minor delays.

Transport for London (TfL) warned commuters to consider alternative routes, with their tickets accepted on the London Overground as well as local bus services.

Meanwhile the Docklands Light Railway was struggling with severe delays between Bank and Tower Gateway and Limehouse after a signal failure at the latter station.

TfL also suspended the DLR service between Limehouse and Poplar and West India Quay this morning while it fixed the error.

The Bakerloo, Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines were all suffering minor delays late this morning.

The delays are the latest in a week of Tube chaos for commuters after severe delays struck the Bakerloo Line, Hammersmith & City Line and District Line on Monday.

Meanwhile Tuesday saw disruption affect four Tube lines including the Circle Line and Hammersmith & City following a signal failure at Farringdon.

However, the threat of a Tube strike this weekend has been averted after union bosses had pressed ahead with plans to take industrial action to coincide with the FA Cup Final at Wembley.

The strikes – involving around 1,200 engineering staff – were set to go ahead over planned cuts to train safety inspections.

“It is a massive achievement for this union to overturn the planned cuts to Tube train inspections and preparation but the campaign doesn’t stop here, not by a long chalk,” RMT general secretary Mick Cash said earlier this week.

A TfL spokesperson said: “The safety of our staff and customers is always paramount. While our proposals did not compromise this, we have decided not to change the frequencies of some less safety critical train checks. Train preparation checks will always be carried out safely and efficiently.”
