Trump threatens to close Mexico border permanently after migrants storm crossing

President Donald Trump today said the US will close its border with Mexico permanently if needed as he repeated calls for a wall between the two countries.

“Mexico should move the flag waving Migrants, many of whom are stone cold criminals, back to their countries,” Trump said today on Twitter.

“Do it by plane, do it by bus, do it anyway you want, but they are NOT coming into the U.S.A. We will close the Border permanently if need be. Congress, fund the WALL!”

Trump’s comments come a day after US border officials fired tear gas at a group of Central American migrants rushing the border fence in California.

US Customs and Border Protection temporarily closed the border at the San Ysidro crossing in California yesterday.

President Trump had stated migrants at the border would remain in Mexico while their asylum claims were being processed in US courts, prompting complaints from the Mexican government.

Mexico’s incoming interior minister Olga Sanchez Cordero said there was “no agreement of any type between the future government of Mexico and the United States,” according to Reuters.

Thousands of migrants from Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador have arrived at the US border after fleeing their home countries last month.
