Passengers on the Eurostar are facing major delays after services were suspended following the death of a man who was hit by a train in Bearsted, in Kent.

The British Transport Police (BTP) were called in at 11:40am. In a statement the BTP said:

Medics from South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended the incident, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers are currently working to establish the identity of the person and how they came to be on the tracks

The incident is being treated as "non-suspicious". Eurostar is hoping to get services running later today. Southeastern high speed services have also been suspended from running through the affected area.

Passengers have taken to Twitter to complain.

The train company has advised customers to request a refund or exchange their tickets.

Last month, Eurostar trains were suspended thanks to a lorry fire on the French side of the Channel Tunnel.

The Eurostar carries on average 56,000 passengers a day between Britain and the continent.

We’re sorry if you’re affected by the disruptions today, for those on board please see our compensation policy here: http://t.co/Nfr0uAEkil
